So today we had to design and create a contemporary hairstyle inspired by Elizabethans. The style either had to be a wedding design or a high fashion catwalk style.
I chose to create a wedding design. I incorporated plaits, curls and then created an up-do.

I created a middle section where the parting would be and then did a french braid. Then when this got to the edge near the forehead, I split the braid in two and continued to braid these two parts. I then secured them with a bobby pin. I then french braided two sections at each side of the face bringing them back and loosening the braid so I could blend it in with the back design. I then sectioned these two so that I could begin curling the entire Katie head. Once I had completed the entire Katie head. I then got the middle section and put it into a little elastic band. I then pinned it so it stuck up and then let the curls fall over. I then twisted the other loose hairs into the loose bun until it was all secure. For this I used bobby pins. I then secured the 2 braids from the side and tucked them into the bun loosening the plaits a little more to create a more romantic look. I then got the two braids I started with and tucked them into the 2 side braids and then secured them with bobby pins. This created a crown like shape.

I was inspired by the image of Jessica Alba above. I love the loose braid and floaty style of this up do.I was very happy with how my hairstyle came out. I did struggle with my idea though at first. I definitely want to incorporate the front detail into my final design. I think it looks quite regal and is an interesting twist on Elizabethan braiding.
